Thats a youtube video on 2019 wet belt change on a custom. It's a shoot in the dark when buying a second hand car or van. Just cos they tell you all that will be done doesn't mean they'll do it. And if the belt goes when your driven. It good bye engine. I bought a vivaro as it has a timing chain they last a lot longer and will make a rattling sound when they really need to be changed. Check the engine oil on the custom it should look like cooking oil on the dip stick as the sump has to come off to do the belt. Thats all I can tell you.

@Zak N. Thanks for your advise, so the van has 91,000 miles done, and they are changing the timing belt for the first time now as part of the new service it will get before it’s sold, do you think this is risky?

Hi Oskar, As long as the timing belt has been done and you get a warranty from the dealer. Remember the wet timing belts don't last the 70000miles that ford say it should last. The safe time to change the belts is 50000miles. So check the mileage of when the belt was changed in the service book and what it is now. If the belt was changed 25000miles ago I would stay away unless your ok with the cost of changing it.

@Amine L. Zak N. Another bit of info - The timing belt is being done and it has been VRT’s and the van is from Van monster, it was used as a fleet leased van , now it’s back with the company after 4/5 years and on sale to the market. It does have a full service history, it’s been maintained well as part of the lease agreement , it’s a 2020 model also. Would You still stay away from it, it seems like it ticks a lot of boxes? 90,000 miles

Hi Oskar, Amine is right the ford custom has a wet timing belt and they are not very good. If the timing belt hasn't been changed I would stay away from it.

Better of ringing a mechanic closer to we’re van is and asking them to look at it

Amine L. 10 months ago

Stay away from them Ford if it has wet belt, search Google Ford wet belt issues it's a nightmare if it's not serviced on time.

@Daniel R. I would like a thorough inspection of the van I’m about to purchase, including the engine, clutch, gearbox, timing belt/chain, brakes, suspension, steering, and drivetrain. Also the tires, undercarriage, electrical systems, and HVAC, and conduct a test drive to assess performance, gear changes, and braking. A VAT invoice and detailed report on the van’s condition are required.

Is there anything else you need or that’s all?
